Meet Our Team

Gina Bethell, Business Development Manager

Gina brings more than 15 years of experience in the tourism industry, with the past decade focused on meetings, conferences, and destination sales. She holds a degree in Tourism Management from Vancouver Island University and a certificate in Event Management.

Originally from England and raised in Nanaimo, Gina developed an early passion for travel and destination development, including time working in Whitehorse, Yukon. For the past nine years, she has proudly championed Nanaimo as a meetings and conferences destination.

Her favourite part of the role is welcoming planners to Nanaimo and helping them discover the character, beauty, and sense of place that make the destination unique. Gina is always happy to connect and help bring meetings and conferences to life.

Sydney Solland, Sport Tourism Coordinator

Sydney has over 11 years of experience in tourism and hospitality, with a focus on destination services, visitor experience, and stakeholder support. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Tourism and Hospitality Management from Okanagan College and is currently completing her master’s degree at Vancouver Island University.

She began her career with Tourism Kelowna, where she spent five and a half years supporting the destination, including four years managing the Visitor Centre—building a strong foundation in visitor services, industry relations, and destination marketing.

Now based in Nanaimo, Sydney supports sport and event organizers through bid development, venue and hotel coordination, familiarization visits, and collaboration with sport organizations at all levels. She is passionate about the role destination organizations play in building strong communities and is always happy to connect to explore hosting opportunities in Nanaimo.

I have worked in the tourism industry, more specifically in sales, hospitality and events, for almost 20 years. As I have a passion for traveling, I decided to study Tourism and Travel at La Cité collégiale in Ottawa. I also have a certificate in Event Management with Louise Boudrias Consulting.

Early in my career, I worked as a group reservation agent for Reservation Outaouais, a local inbound travel agency. This experience allowed me to build relationships with many suppliers and partners including hotels, restaurants, activities, attractions, and event venues and to learn about what our region has to offer. I then represented several hotels in the Ottawa-Gatineau region such as the Best Western Plus, the Hilton Lac-Leamy, The Fairmont Chateau Laurier and the Four Point by Sheraton as well as venues like the Shaw Centre, the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum. Throughout my career, I have always been very proud of the organizations I represented in our region.

Now that I am working in a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), I get to use this experience and knowledge to represent the convention and business events in the beautiful Outaouais region.

I look forward to meeting with you and welcoming you in the #OutaouaisFun destination!

Meet Deb

Meet Deborah Edwards, Account Manager for Meetings, Conventions and Incentive Travel for Hawaii Tourism Canada. She is responsible to create business opportunities between MC& IT planners and Hawaii Partners.

She began her career as a corporate travel agent for Uniglobe, which led to a Sales Representative position at Sunquest Vacations before quickly growing within the company to become the Manager of Sales and Planning.

Deborah was hired as Groups Manager for Nolitours and held positions as the Incentive Group Manager for Air Canada Vacations, and Operations Supervisor with Egencia Meetings & Incentives. With over 20 years of experience in the travel industry, Deborah has developed an extensive knowledge of the MICE market in Canada and welcomes you to reach out with all of your Hawaii questions and RFP’s. Deborah will assist you with all of your MICE needs
