Peterborough & the Kawarthas is known for its Hockey and Lacrosse heritage – home to one of the oldest and most successful Canadian Major Junior hockey teams – The Peterborough Petes, who have produced a record number of NHL players and coaches, and the Peterborough Lakers Major Series Lacrosse team; nine-time Mann Cup national championship winners.

The area is steadily increasing its reputation as an excellent choice for outdoor adventure competition including road, off-road and gravel cycling, and fantastic paddling opportunities. There has been exponential growth, support and provincial success for rugby, lawn bowling, long distance and trail running and cross-country skiing as well.
